Green Pigeons (punai)

One of the most beautiful birds found in our country. Such beauties and their cries too are very nice to hear. Very common and can be found litterally everywhere, especially in populated areas.

Kelicap

Recently on the 8th of May my son-in-law took me to Pulau Redang off the coast of Trengganu for a weekend. Apart from basking under the sun and bathing in the cool waters of the South China Seas, I still managed to go around the resort looking for birds. Sad to say, I was unlucky not to find any birds at all, if there was, it was too high up on the trees and beyond the capabilities of my camera. Anyway, on the beach, I managed to get this small bird 'kelicap' into my lens.

I noticed, its close cousins on the mainland have somewhat dull feathers. But here on this island, its colours were very bright and better looking. Somehow, this bird feeds on nectar too from the small flowers by the sea-side.

And I am sorry the photos are not very clear!

Kelicap

I moved to my present house in early March and the only tree I have now is one flowering tree in front of my house. This 'kelicap' came into my lens when it was feeding nectar from the 'dedap' flowers. Most probably this bird will be my model for many more days to come. I have been noticing, this is the only bird that makes frequent visit to the flowers of this tree.

Oriole or 'kunyit besar'

This pair of oriole never fail to entertain and amuse me since they used to come and perch on the trees just outside my bedroom window. Having a loud and shrill cries, it makes you readily alerted and have to see them playing and hunting for insects on the trees.

Grey pigeon (balam)
